such a flake

So I have a very dry scalp. It’s kind of gross and embarrassing to talk about, but whatever. Lots of people have dandruff and so I suppose it’s not that big of a deal.
My problem is that is gets way worse in the winter and the bulk of my winter wardrobe is black. So you can see how this would pose a problem. I’ve tried half a dozen different kinds of dandruff shampoo with no luck.

Until now.

shampoo

Pureology’s Dandruff Scalpcure Shampoo. This stuff is amazing. I’ve only been using it for four days now, but my scalp no longer itches and there are no flakes on my clothes. The only negative is the price tag. My sister is a licensed hair stylist so I was able to use her to score it for me at a lesser cost. The large bottle, which was all they had in stock, was $33. I can only imagine it retails for twice that much. I was desperate though, so I threw down the cash. And I’m so glad I did. I didn’t buy the conditioner since I only condition a couple of times a week and I use the tube of conditioner that comes with my hair color.

I have to thank Hair Thursday for leading me to this product. I searched their site and the only post about dandruff talked about this shampoo. I surfed around and found many awesome reviews. I guess this is one of those instances where you get what you pay for. I just hope my sister never fails to renew her cosmetology license.

*****

There are two really awesome things about this movie. The first being that it takes place here in Tulsa. It’s so cool to see your home town on the big screen like that. The second being that this film actually left a negative carbon footprint during filming. I’ve heard of leaving no carbon footprint, but to leave a negative one? That was new to me. They did so by using all existing landmarks and sets. Nothing was built for the movie. Many items were donated such as clothing to make up the wardrobe and bio-diesel fuel for the trailers and trucks. You can read more about it on their website linked above.

I think even if this movie hadn’t been set in Tulsa I would still love it. It features something that is very near and dear to my heart: karaoke. Now I haven’t frequented karaoke bars in a very long time, but I sure did my share of it back in my early 20′s. Two of the most prominent “sets” in the movie were a local bar and a coffeehouse. Karaoke and coffee? Yes please.

This movie had me in tears, both from laughing and from crying. It’s hilarious and fun and you wanna dance in your seat and root for the underdog. It also kind of made me fall in love with Jack Roberts, the guy who plays Duncan Christopher. Jack wrote the movie himself and it’s directed by Justin Monroe who happens to play his father in the movie. You can bet I’ll be keeping an eye on these guys to see what comes next for them.

I suppose you probably want to see a trailer for the movie now huh?

“You’re jogging to get alcohol?”
“It’s a double negative. They cancel each other out.”
“I once talked an entire day in nothing but double negatives.”

I’m so excited to be able to do a Duncan Christopher giveaway here on my blog. I’m not being paid to do this, I want to do this.

I came home from the private screening with three t-shirts. Two of them size L and one XL. I figured I’d use them to spread the word about the movie. And because I’m just so in love with the movie, I’m going to buy one copy of it to give away as well.

1st place winner: A copy of the movie on DVD (once it’s released) and whichever shirt you want. (they are black and have the movie title on them)
I’ll pick two additional winners to give the other t-shirts too. And if you’re local, I’ll include some bonus goodies that came in the swag bags. If you’re not local the bonus goodies won’t really do you any good since they are for local businesses.

To enter: leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite song to sing at karaoke. And if you’ve never sang karaoke then just tell me what song you would sing if you were forced to do karaoke.
You can win additional entries by tweeting about this contest or posting it on facebook. Just be sure and come back here and comment again for each additional entry.

This contest will run until 5pm Monday, February 7th. Open to US and Canada residents.

white noise

In order for me to sleep at night, I need white noise. It wasn’t always this way. It started just over 4 years ago when I got married. I would turn on a fan at night in an effort to drown out his snoring. Now I can’t sleep without it. It’s winter though and it’s cold and dry. Turning on a fan just seems wrong. So I decided that I wanted a white noise machine. My first thought was Sharper Image. When I think about Sharper Image I think about expensive toys that are cool, but I can’t afford. And this thing looked cool.

noisemaker

It has 20 different sounds and an alarm clock. Of course I have no idea why anyone would want to listen to wind chimes or foghorns, it’s on there. There’s rain, white noise, thunderstorm, roadside, ocean tide, fan, aviary, train, and some others I can’t remember.

I turn it on Sunday night in preparation for my first week back to work after the holidays. Except that the noise isn’t really soothing me. It’s annoying me and making my heart race. So basically it’s stressing me out. I move to the only other sounds I can stand which are fan and thunderstorm. It gets no better. I finally gave up and turned the fan back on. And then took the Sharper Image Sound Soother back to Bed, Bath, and Beyond (where I bought it with a 20% off coupon) the next day.

The white noise app I downloaded to my phone was even worse. The best way I can describe it would be to compare it to listening to music on a pair of headphones from the Dollar Tree versus listening to music on a pair of Bose headphones. One sucks and one is awesome.

Oh and I also got the heated throw that I wanted. No more sliding into a cold bed at night.
